this is a diarrhea illness, causes infection of the intestine. Some of the effects of cholera were watery diarrhea, vomiting, and leg cramps. Cholera is spread by contaminated water and food. The bacterium may live in brackish rivers, and this is also how they got cholera.
Head and Body Lice
On the Oregon Trail one of the most common diseases was body and head lice. Some of the effects of head lice is constantly itching which causes the scalp to become irritated. The pioneers on the Oregon Trail got the head and body lice by not being able to bathe. They couldn't bathe because they had to wait until they found clean water. Head Lice is an infestation of a six leg insect that feeds on blood and infest the hairy parts of the body. Lice will attach themselves to the hair shaft and clothing. Eggs are hatched and need warm temperature to survive. Lice can live up to 20 or more days and during that time they will produce more eggs.
Malaria
Some of the symptoms for malaria are the chills, sweats, fevers, and abdominal pain. You can get malaria by getting bitten by a malaria infected mosquito. Then the malaria travels through your body to your liver. This is where malaria cells grow rapidly.
Scurvy
This disease will produce swelling and hemorrhaging. This is caused by improper diet.
